ABOUT THE BOOK

The advent of the global pandemic of Coronavirus or Covid-19 has created a major global shock across different cultural economies and disabled core societal governance structures leading to an unexpected halt and limited estimation of the challenges and risks that it may incept over the time. Issues of geopolitical dysfunctions, civil rights and democracy, educational and market imbalances have led to different state institutions to revise its strategies of operations and bring about alternative solutions both at the policy and programme level to address them. Despite the efforts there is still a fear of socio-economic, socio-cultural and political risks in terms of unequal impact across various social groups and territories in terms of rights, accessibility and participation due to the pandemic and its recession both in the short and long term period.

Media too has undergone a series of transformation with the advent of Covid-19 where across different countries there appears to be an injected growth in the field of digital media in order to meet the social conditions of isolation and consumer media demands. Digital media has been seen to be integrated with the existing conventional forms of operations across social, economic and political spheres of the society and also been attempted to create an individual space for itself in regard to socio-cultural change. However, despite the attempts there is limited information available which can help in assessing the kind of change it is shaping and the challenges that it can bring about especially in the times of pandemic of Covid-19 where people are deeply perturbed by the growing social isolation to counter coronavirus. There is a dire need for critical assessment of theories of socio-cultural change in accordance with media so as to assess how people's understanding across the globe is getting impacted and how it is shaping their scope for participation.

The key aim of the book is to illuminate upon the changing media landscape with the advent of the global pandemic of Covid-19 and identify the emerging trends in the socio-cultural domains of India and other global regions especially in regard to accessibility, migration and engagement. Further, the book will help in identifying the core critical challenges that are emerging across different regions and how media is acting as a mediating agent in these newly emerging trends of socio-cultural change within society.
