Although, the system has been in use since ancient times in one form or the other, gradual upgradation in technology has made it a safe, reliable and economical mode of transportation. Conventional transport system, although in use for long, has serious drawbacks in terms of financial viability, environmental safety and last mile connectivity. To meet such challenges, Ropeway as alternative mode of transport is widely being sought across the world. The book describes in detail the historical background of ropeway system and its gradual evolution to the present day safe, sturdy and reliable system duly mentioning various breakthroughs attained during this beautiful journey. Aspects related to its technical feasibility, financial viability, environmental safety and social acceptability have been discussed in detail at appropriate places. The initiative taken by the Govt. of India to promote this important sector through 'Parvatmala' scheme gives readers first-hand information about the importance this sector has been accorded. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Er. Kundan Singh is an IDSE cadre officer under Govt of India. A Civil Engineering graduate from MNNIT Allahabad and post graduate from IIT Delhi, he obtained his MBA in (O&R) and Post Graduate Diplomas in Management. Operation Management and Human Resources Development. Having more than 35 years of experience in planning, design, construction and management of large, complex and multi-disciplinary construction projects, he has successfully turned around many a sick project under his dynamic leadership. He has a deep passion for project management, which is manifested through various projects implemented by him within stipulated time and cost, maintaining high-quality standards and meeting the entire scope.

As Chief Ropeway Inspector of Uttarakhand Govt. he was responsible for inspecting and certifying the operational suitability of all ropeways in the state of Uttarakhand. As MD- BRIDCUL, he successfully turned around the state run-PSU, making it operationally profitable and a force to be reckoned with. A recipient of Commendation certificate from IBC for best technical paper in 2009, he has presented various technical papers in national and international seminars. He has authored three books on construction project management, which are widely referred to by student community, working professionals and those preparing for prestigious competitive examinations.

Acknowledging his outstanding contribution to construction industry, he was presented with "Global Business Award-2022 in Bangkok. In recognition of his contribution to Strategy and Digitalisation, he was honored with MD Leadership Award-2023 in New Delhi.
